However, holding a certificate does come with benefits.
If you're actively pursuing certification—completing at least six semester hours annually—you can teach in any capacity and for an unlimited number of days.
To become a substitute teacher in New York, you’ll need:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- A fingerprint-based background check (FBI/DOJ)
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
